Built for the Firebase work between releases.

Chiselbase brings everyday data work into one desktop app: exploring collections, fixing documents, moving data to staging and reviewing changes to production.

Why

The same Firebase tasks kept sending me out of the Console and into scripts.

Exporting a collection to JSON, copying data to staging and changing many documents all meant reaching for separate tools or scripts.

AI assistance added another need: choosing which projects an agent could access and reviewing its writes before they ran.

Chiselbase is the tool I wanted for that work: one window for the project, production protected, writes logged.

How it’s built

Tauri v2 and a Rust core
The Rust core holds the credentials and runs the guardrails and the audit log. The interface runs in a web view on top. On Windows, that’s WebView2.
REST, no Admin SDK
Chiselbase calls Google’s REST APIs from Rust, plus one read-only gRPC stream for live updates. There’s no Firebase Admin SDK inside.
Secrets in the OS keystore
Credentials and the license key are stored in Windows Credential Manager, the macOS Keychain or the Secret Service on Linux.
Verified updates
The updater checks the size, SHA-256 hash and signature of every update against a key built into the app.

How it fits your workflow

Use Chiselbase for daily data work alongside your existing Firebase tools.

  • Manage billing, create projects and configure Extensions, Hosting and Analytics in the Firebase Console.
  • Inspect Cloud Functions and logs in Chiselbase, and their runtime environment in Pro. Deploy with your existing tooling.
  • Install Chiselbase on your desktop to work with live projects and the emulator.
  • Each person using Pro has an individual license.

Common questions

Is it a native app?

Not in the strict sense. It’s Tauri v2: a Rust core with the system’s web view for the interface. It doesn’t ship its own browser the way Electron apps do.

Why does Windows warn me when I install it?

The installer isn’t code-signed. SmartScreen shows a warning. Click “More info”, then “Run anyway”. The updater verifies every update’s signature. That protects updates. It isn’t code signing.

What does Pro add?

Pro adds more projects, data import and export, cross-project copies, bulk changes and MCP agent access. Choose yearly or monthly billing. Free covers one cloud project with production safeguards, audit log and supported undo, without an account or expiry date.

Why did it open in German?

German is the app’s default language, and it doesn’t follow your system language. Switch to English in Settings.

macOS and Linux?

Download a DMG for Apple silicon or Intel Macs, or an AppImage for x64 or ARM64 Linux. Windows is the primary development and validation platform; macOS and Linux issues may need additional troubleshooting.
